A funeral mass was offered Nov. 21 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church for Joseph James Fredericks Jr., 97, of Weehawken. He passed away Nov. 16. He was born in and a lifelong resident of Weehawken. Joe served in the US Army from 1943-1946. From 1944-1946 he was deployed to the European theater of operations with the OSS (Office of Strategic Service). Joe retired from the Weehawken Fire Department after 35 years of honorable service. His last 3 years of service were as Provisional Deputy Chief He was a 45 year volunteer with the American Red Cross, a life member of the VFW and member of the OSS Society. He served as president to both the Weehawken Firemen Exempts and FMBA Local #26. He was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Parish. Joe was predeceased by his wife Anne (Maloney) Fredericks. He was the father of Joseph Fredericks of Middletown, Janice Fredericks of Weehawken and Steven Fredericks of Toms River. Joe was also the grandfather of Ellen Wilson, Steven, Ryan, Kristen, Kelsey Fredericks and great grandfather to Mason Wilson. He is survived by his brother Raymond. He is predeceased by his parents Jeanette and Joseph J Fredericks Sr., and his siblings, Harold, Eileen, and Allan Fredericks. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
