A Celebration of Life will be held at The Atrium of Tenafly, on Oct. 29 for Anthony (Tony) Ortiz, 63. He died peacefully in his home on Oct. 6. He had bravely battled rare bile duct cancer since 2017. Tony is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and their 4 sons, Anthony Ortiz and his fiancée, Lauren Lemetti. Steven Ortiz and his fiancée, Alice Guan, David Ortiz and Mark Ortiz. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Ortiz and his 3 children, wife Zelma and her 3 children. Mother-in-law Lorraine Marra, father-in-law, Stanley Hoffman. His in-laws, Lance and Deborah Vieau and their 3 children. Catherine Herrington and her daughter. Bill and Gina Knapp and their 2 children. The Hoffman cousins and their children. Tony is also survived by an extraordinary group of friends and their children who were his ‘chosen family’. Tony was born the youngest of two children to parents Arsenio and Avelina Ortiz (predeceased) in Manhattan on Oct. 29th, 1957. Originally, the family was from Spain. He grew up in West New York then moved to Ridgefield N.J. after grade school. He graduated from Long Island University in 1980 with a degree in Pharmacy and Nutrition. He married Lorraine Hoffman in 1985. He was the owner of Atlas Drug and Nutrition in North Bergen, N.J. for over 25 years. He continued to work there after selling the store over 2 years ago. Tony was an avid reader, always curious, always learning. He was funny, adventurous and loved to dance. His favorite hobbies were gardening, hiking, English football, the stock market, walking his dog Milo, and spending time with family and friends. His favorite team was Chelsea. He travelled extensively: Asia, Canada, the islands, several U.S. states, Europe, Iceland and this past summer to a beautiful wedding in Greece. Tony enjoyed everything involving food and loved a good laugh with friends, frequently at his own expense. His family, coworkers and friends will remember him as a cherished father, husband, mentor, brother, businessman, counselor and friend.
