CarePoint Health and Rothman Orthopaedics strengthen partrnership

CarePoint Health and Rothman Orthopaedic Institute first announced their orthopedic partnership in March 2021. The leadership teams have now announced a 10-year partnership to provide orthopedic care. This commitment exemplifies the priority of both organizations to create a world-class comprehensive orthopedic service line at Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City to serve the patients in Hudson County and beyond.

An internationally recognized leader founded in 1970, Rothman Orthopaedics is the largest surgical practice in the United States.  Rothman Orthopaedics has 14 practice operations in New Jersey and a new Hudson County location.

The new location includes Rothman Orthopaedic surgeons and non-operative physicians in addition to services such as imaging, orthotics and physical therapy. These physicians will staff key programs including a new Arthroplasty Center.

Rothman Orthopaedics and CarePoint are also in discussions to create a multi-specialty ambulatory venture to serve Hudson County. This program will encourage other specialties outside of orthopedics to join this high-quality care model.

Since the initial announcement in 2021, the CarePoint and Rothman Orthopaedics clinical teams worked diligently to create an implementation strategy to improve the quality of patient care and recruit the brightest minds from the most prestigious orthopedic programs to serve Hudson County residents.

“A strength of Rothman Orthopaedics that I am particularly proud of is our ability to recruit top talent,” said Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, president of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. “We are very fortunate based on our reputation that the North Jersey expansion attracted an abundance of top trained orthopaedic applicants. Hudson County is going to be thrilled with the new orthopaedic physicians serving their community”

“We have had an overwhelming response on the part of the orthopaedic community to practice in Hudson County at these outstanding hospitals,” said Christopher T. Olivia, MD, CEO of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. “This will allow us to select the best of the best, fellowship trained surgeons from prestigious organizations like Yale University and others to serve patients in the New York metropolitan area. It speaks to CarePoint’s incredible leadership to commit to this project to improve the care of the patients they serve.”

CarePoint Health has made big strides in bringing quality healthcare to the people in Northern New Jersey. In the past two years CarePoint has gained national recognition as the No. 1 ranked hospital for equitable care in the US by the prestigious Lown Institute and 4th ranked safety net hospital by Washington Journal. In its stage of strategic and clinical evolution CarePoint health system is transforming to a nonprofit healthcare system with partnerships that include national leaders in healthcare delivery like Rothman Orthopaedics.

President and CEO of CarePoint Health, Achintya Moulick, MD, MBA, M.Ch said, “CarePoint Health, with its geographic location, density of population and changing demographics needs clinical leaders like Rothman Orthopaedics as partners to enhance the services to this community. The synergies of two institutions led by clinical leaders holds a lot of promise for growth and innovation and holds limitless possibilities for advancing orthopedic care.” He further added “CarePoint health with Rothman Orthopaedics want to set up a world class Spine Center in Hudson County which can serve the people with complex spinal issues.”

Rothman Orthopaedics anticipates a fall of 2022 commencement to begin caring for patients in Hudson County with an initial six surgeons and two non-operative physicians hired for Hudson County with expertise in Joint Replacement, Spine, Sports Medicine, Hand & Wrist, Foot & Ankle, and Shoulder & Elbow.
