And the answer, as with so many other things in this bizarre race, is that we just don’t know.
The verdict isn’t likely to move the needle much for die-hards on either side of the aisle. People who despised the former president will hate him all the more, and his supporters are so entrenched that his website crashed due to all the traffic from people trying to contribute to his campaign.
The real question is how this will affect undecided voters, and we simply don’t have the data to make a conclusion there as yet. This is a truly unprecedented occurrence (for American politics, at least), and we have no idea what the long-term ramifications will be.
In the short term, though, his odds to win decreased slightly, moving from -165 at BetWhale to -120 (54.5% implied probability). That still makes him a favorite, of course, but it also shows that Vegas has concerns about his ability to keep dodging all the legal firestorms headed his way.
