At (3-0), the Bruins hold the top spot in the Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Floor Hockey Jr. Division but the (1-1) Red Wings are hot on their heels. The Bruins started off like gang busters with Ryan “Iron” Griffin scoring quickly off an assist from Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes. Seconds later, Cifuentes made it 2-0 Bruins as Griffin picked up the assist. Trailing in a hurry, the Red Wings regrouped and stormed back to take a 3-2 lead as team captain Megan Feeley pumped in two goals while also assisting Declan McCormick on his third goal in two games. Stunned by the Red Wings 3 goal spree, the Bruins’ Ryan Griffin once again joined forces with Alejandro Cifuentes to tie the fray at 3 all as Griffin lifted in his second goal off a Cifuentes’ assist. For the leagues two best defenses, the news was not good as the Red Wings took a 4-3 lead as Drew Radil bolted in a goal via a Feeley assist. Moments later, Griffin made it 4-4 this time off an assist from Thomas Canela. The seesaw battle continued as Drew Radil hit his mark again as Akshat Thakur notched his second assist as the Red Wings regained the lead at 5-4. With their unbeaten streak on the line, the Bruins kicked things into gear to take a 7-5 advantage as Michael Egan blasted in two goals while Griffin zipped in his fourth goal of the bout. Trailing by two goals, the Red Wings made a last ditch run and Drew Radil came through with his third goal in seven minutes making it 7-6, Bruins. As both teams fired away throughout the contest, the final five minutes belonged to the goalies as the Red Wings’ Declan Good helped keep his squad in striking distance while Victor Mendolaro hunkered down to preserve the Bruins 7-6 win as the Bruins and Mendolaro stayed undefeated.
