JERSEY CITY -- The Friends of Liberty State Park will hold its 12th annual awards luncheon on Sunday, May 7 at Liberty House Restaurant to celebrate LSP and honor those who have protected and improved LSP.

The honorees include:

Andrew Willner, Environmental champion and founder and first head of the NY/NJ Baykeeper, which has been the Friends’ closest ally in 25 years of battles for a free and green park.

Bike JC, the grassroots bike advocacy group which played a key role in saving the park from commercialization plans and organized the Bike Ride Against Privatization on Nov. 1, 2015.

Tough Mudder, which held its physical endurance teamwork event at LSP on Nov.7, 2015  and donated very generously to FOLSP for park improvements. With their donation, the Friends were able to pay for over a third of the $93,000 cost of installing 50 flag poles for state flags on Freedom Way, a new iconic feature in LSP’s scenic views with Lady Liberty and Ellis Island.

Hugo Iglesias – the Hudson County Community College Honor Society student volunteer who will get the Green Thumb award for his dedication to the Friends’ gardening program.

Tickets are $65 and $75 at the door.  Information is at www.folsp.org or by emailing Sam at pesinliberty@earthlink.net or calling him at 201-792-1993
