A mass of Christian burial was offered Jan. 11 at St. Aedan’s, The Saint Peter’s University Church, Jersey City, for Jersey City Police Lieutenant Christopher Robateau, 49, of Carteret, formerly of Jersey City. He was killed helping assist a motorist on the NJ Turnpike on Jan. 5. Christopher joined the Jersey City Police Department in 1994 and quickly distinguished himself as a very kind compassionate officer. He received over 40 Meritorious Police Service Awards during his career.

Christopher loved his family above all else. They remember him as a father who loved spending time with his family and making them laugh, who enjoyed practical jokes, cigars, scary movies and lived for his vacation time with his family, planning every detail for months in advance. His son Darin said that his father “was able to teach an important life lesson in only a few sentences.”

Christopher was predeceased by his parents, William and Carmita Robateau; sisters, Yolanda Robateau and Patricia Morales and brother, Anthony Robateau. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Rose Mercedez Robateau; sons, Darin, Christopher, Jr. and Michael Christian Robateau; brother, William Robateau; sister, Juliet Williams; sister-in-law, Norma Colon-Robateau; nieces, Carmita Morales, Elizabeth, Juliet and Fidelia Williams and Emalis Robateau and nephews, Dudley Williams and Anthony William Robateau, Nicholas Peter Robateau and as well as his dog Rosie. Christopher is also survived by many cousins and friends.

Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
