WHITEHEAD, ROBERT LEE

Funeral services were held July 1 at Salem Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Robert Lee Whitehead. He passed away June 24. Born in Charles City, Va., Robert has been a longtime resident of Jersey City for 68 years until his passing. A United States Army veteran, Robert served in World War II and the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge for both tours of service. Robert was affectionately known as “Bob” to most. He retired from Anchor Motor Freight where he delivered new cars to dealerships from the Midwest to various states in the northeast. He has always been very devoted to his faith throughout his life, and was a member of Salem Baptist Church. In retirement, Bob loved to read, listen to music, work on cars and home projects, and he especially enjoyed time with his family and close friends.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Edna, daughter Donna and son Barry (Andrea). He is survived by his granddaughter/primary caregiver Renee Melendez (Robert), son Glenn Whitehead (Dawn); granddaughters Ashley and Desiree Whitehead and Brianna Logan; grandsons Trevor and Spencer Whitehead; great-grandsons Donovan Ahjuder and Christian and Jason Melendez; his sisters Arnella Christian and Angie Parker; and his brother Edward Whitehead. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
