North Bergen resident killed in head-on collision in Jersey City

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, 32-year-old North Bergen resident Adriana Riano died in a head-on motor vehicle collision which took place in Jersey City, on Sunday, May 5.

Jersey City police officers were dispatched to Paterson Plank Road, just south of the Congress Street intersection, to respond to reports of a motor vehicle collision at 7:15 a.m. Upon arrival, the responding officers discovered that two vehicles were involved in a collision.

The first vehicle was a 2008 Ford Edge operated by Adriana Riano, age 32, of North Bergen. The vehicle also contained a 30-year-old male passenger. The second vehicle was a 2015 Dodge Charger operated by Jonathan Ortiz-Guanaga, a 26-year-old from Union City.

All three individuals were transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. Riano was pronounced dead at approximately 3:15 p.m. Her passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Ortiz-Guanaga was treated for his injuries and remains in critical condition at JCMC.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit has determined that the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision. The events surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

Those who knew Adriana Riano have set up an online fundraiser in her name on GoFundMe. The proceeds they collect will be donated to Riano’s family.
