#HudsonGives 24 hour drive underway

May 17 is a day to support Hudson County nonprofits.

Eighty-two nonprofits participating in #HudsonGives will have the opportunity to win cash prizes during a first-ever day of giving taking place on Friday, May 17.  Hosted by the Hudson County Chamber Foundation, Inc., #HudsonGives is planned as a 24-hour, online fundraising campaign to unite the community in support of the nonprofit sector and raise awareness of the critical services nonprofit organizations provide.  In addition to raising funds, the event is a competition that now features more than $20,000 worth of prizes that can be won by nonprofits and individual donors.

Hudson County Executive Thomas DeGise, Jersey City Council President Rolando Lavarro, and New Jersey State Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti joined the Hudson County Chamber Foundation, major sponsors, such as Goya, The Provident Bank Foundation and DTCC, and leaders in the nonprofit sector to kick-off #HudsonGives at a ribbon cutting event at Liberty House Restaurant.

“We’re counting down the final hours to #HudsonGives and could not be more pleased with the tremendous community response,” said Maria Nieves, President & CEO of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce. “We have 82 nonprofits from across Hudson County joining us, including Jersey City, Hoboken, Bayonne, Union City, and West New York and more than 20 sponsors from the corporate and philanthropic community that are helping us to lead this new initiative. Everyone is excited to shine this spotlight over the next 24 hours on the work of the local nonprofit sector.”

In addition to fundraising from the general public, nonprofits can win prizes for their fundraising efforts. Cash prizes range from $1500 for those nonprofits that engage the most unique donors to smaller $250 prizes that will be awarded randomly to participating organizations. There are also gift prizes that will be awarded throughout the day to donors. Members of the public who donate will automatically be entered into drawings for these prizes.

The Hudson County Chamber Foundation, Inc., is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2018 by the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce. The mission of the Foundation is to support capacity building of established small- and medium-sized businesses and nonprofit organizations in the region. #HudsonGives, which uses technology in innovative ways to link donors with organizations, is the first major initiative of the Foundation.
