A funeral mass was offered Aug. 31 at Our Lady of Victories Church, Jersey City, for Mary Elizabeth Skrocki, 86, of Jersey City. She passed away Aug. 27 surrounded by her children. A lifelong resident of Jersey City, Mary was a graduate of St. Aloysius State Teachers College and Seton Hall University where she received her master’s degree in Education. She was a school teacher in Cranford before leaving to raise her family, then returning to teach again at PS 20 in Jersey City where she would retire in 2000 after a 34 year teaching career. She was a member of the National Education Association, The NJ Education Association and the Hudson County Teachers Association. She was a member of Our Lady of Victories Parish, The OLV Rosary Society, and the St. Aloysius Senior Group. She enjoyed the simplicities of life spending time with her family and friends and crocheting many afghan blankets for gifts and for charity. She was predeceased by her parents Anna and Stephen Bernath, her sister Anna Rose Bernath, and her husband of 36 years Joseph H. Skrocki. She is survived by her children Joseph Jude Skrocki, Anthony Joseph Skrocki, and Theresa Mary Dynes and her husband Sean and many relatives living in Czechoslovakia. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
