Recently, the town has begin offering the vaccine at a second site at Hudson Regional Hospital (HRH). Vaccinations at HRH are by appointment only to qualified Secaucus residents who register through the town’s COVID-19 vaccination representative.

Residents should email their names, phone numbers and Secaucus addresses to Appointments for both shots will be booked upon registration. Non-Secaucus residents can email to be added to the waiting list.

Vaccine update

Jeffas said the town wanted to give an update as to how successful vaccination efforts have been at its vaccination site at the Recreation Center.

“We’ve been running the vaccination site for around three months now, and its a huge success,” Gonnelli said. “This is a special time for us.”

Gonnelli said Secaucus has administered over 3,500 vaccinations to residents of Secaucus, reaching that milestone on Friday, March 19.

Jeffas added: “We’re just so thankful to our staff and our volunteers to allow this effort to happen.”

The number includes vaccines distributed at the town site at the Recreation Center. Gonnelli said it does not include data from the county site in Kearny or any other locations.

“This is a milestone for us,” Gonnelli said. “I’d like to thank the volunteers, the people that are getting paid, everybody that does this. On behalf of myself and the council, we can’t thank you guys enough.”

Getting residents inoculated

As of March 25, the town has administered 3,887 first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Of those doses, many have been residents of the town’s senior buildings.

“We’ve done all three buildings, anybody who lives there,” Jeffas said.

The Secaucus Department of Health, the Secaucus Housing Authority, Town Administration, Senior Services, and the Secaucus Police Department collaborated to bring the vaccine to senior residents who couldn’t make it to the Recreation Center and offered the services of the local police therapy dog to soothe them during and after inoculations.

According to Jeffas, the town has vaccinated everyone in the school system.

“Everybody, all teachers, all staff at the school system,” Jeffas said.

Recognizing the vaccination team

Honoring those involved with vaccinations at the Recreation Center, Jeffas thanked the entire vaccination team, including the members who had to stay behind to answer phones at own hall. They include nurse vaccinators, pharmacists, the intake team, and town hall staff, EMS staff from Hudson Regional Hospital, and the police department among other essential volunteers and employees.

Jeffas thanked them wholeheartedly: “You have a few times in your career where you get to work with great people. This is the most awesome group of caring, dedicated, loving people. And I am blessed beyond measure to work with them. We want to thank you so much for all you’ve done.”

“I just want to thank everyone who has been involved in the vaccination site,” Third Ward Councilwoman Orietta Tringali said. “It has been running so smoothly and its just amazing how well everyone has worked together to make it a success.”

“I’d just like to thank all of the people that volunteered to come out and make this a successful vaccination site,” said Second Ward Councilman James Clancy.
