PGA tournament returns to Jersey City

The PGA Tour, the premier golf tour in North America, is returning to Jersey City’s Liberty National Golf Club for The Northern Trust tournament, August 18-22.

Tickets are available at Fans must follow COVID health guidelines when attending.

Union City Pride

A Pride Flag Raising will be held in Union City’s Washington Park on 2nd St. and Palisade Ave. on Aug. 13 at 12 p.m.

A Pride Celebration will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at 15th St. and New York Ave., featuring live music, snacks, rides, and activities.

Hoboken improves pedestrian safety 

The intersection of 11th St. and Willow Ave. has four new concrete curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks with new pedestrian countdown timers, and new traffic signals with 12″ LED signal faces.

The upgrades are part of the city’s Vision Zero initiative that aims to eliminate traffic-related deaths and injuries in the city by 2030.

Where’s my electricity!?

A Mylar balloon was the cause of an afternoon power outage in Jersey City on Monday, August 2, after it floated into a substation.

Over 14,000 customers were affected, according to PSEG. Power was restored 40 minutes later, and the substation is still under repair.

Skate Park to reopen in Union City

The grand reopening of the Argelio “Pete” A. Marrero Morales Skate Park will take place on Aug. 14 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the skate park at 630 38th St.

Free refreshments, music, and activities will be available.

Suspect arrested for shooting at Jersey City vigil 

Mark Stewart is wanted for the death of Felicia Stewart, no relation, killed on Grant Ave. near Martin Luther King Dr. in Jersey City during a vigil for a man who was shot and killed four days earlier at the same location.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Stewart, who turned himself in to the office’s Homicide Unit on Saturday, July 31, was charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree possession of a weapon. He is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Center pending his first appearance.
