Hudson County to give third COVID vaccine doses for immuno-compromised

Third vaccine doses were authorized by the FDA last week.

Hoboken students 12 and older must show proof of vaccination or submit to weekly testing.

Hudson County will distribute third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for immunocompromised people starting today.

The announcement comes after the FDA authorized a third dose last week for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for those who are solid organ transplant recipients or who are diagnosed with conditions that are considered to have an equivalent level of immunocompromising. The CDC officially recommended it soon after the authorization.

“With the Delta variant leading to rising cases and the CDC now recommending third doses for immunocompromised individuals, our Vaccine Task Force is fully prepared to distribute these lifesaving vaccines to people in need just as we have been since our program began in December,” said Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise in a statement. “We also remain committed to bringing vaccines deeper into our communities to further increase our county’s strong vaccination numbers and keep our residents safe from COVID-19.”

The doses are available at the USS Juneau Center Vaccine Site in Kearny for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Residents should get the same vaccine they previously received at least four weeks after their second dose. No appointments are required. A full list of hours for the site can be found on hudsoncovidvax.org.
