West New York man charged with sexual assault of 4- and 7-year-old boys

Antonio Yat Pop, a 24-year-old from West New York, was arrested in connection with the crimes

Officers of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit have arrested Antonio Yat Pop for alleged sex crimes, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

The 24-year-old of West New York was arrested on Tuesday, June 28, on charges relating to the alleged sexual assault of a 4-year-old boy and a sex crime on a 7-year-old boy. The victims are known to Yat Pop and two additional children were present at the time of the crimes, according to Suarez.

Yat Pop is charged with first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The crimes occurred on Tuesday, June 28, inside a West New York residence.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. The state has filed a detention motion, which is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, July 5.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit and West New York Police Department with the investigation and arrest. Anyone wishing to report a sex crime should call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) at 201-915-1234.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
