DaWayne Brashear, son of famed Navy Master Diver/Master Chief Boatswain’s Mate Carl Brashear, will speak at the Bayonne Public Library’s second floor gallery on Tuesday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. Carl Brashear graduated from the U.S. Navy’s Diving and Salvage School in Bayonne in 1954, becoming the first African-American to do so. He was also the first black diver in the U.S. Navy. The diving school was located at Bayonne’s Naval Supply Depot, which was later called the Military Ocean Terminal.
